Ten-tornese bronze coin

10-tornese bronze coin A large bronze 10-tornese coin of Ferdinand II, king from 1830 to 1859. He was a competent monarch, but unloved by his Sicilian subjects who gave him the nickname of King Bomba, because he bombarded Palermo by warships during their revolution of 1848.

Note the "Hier." in the legend/inscription. It is the Latin abbreviation for Jerusalem. The title of "King of Jerusalem" was inherited from the era of the crusades by the kings of Naples, and borne until the last.
