On
Tuesday, September 28, 7:30-8:30 p.m., Margaret Musgrove will speak
on the Etruscans as the kick-off in a series of Tuesday evening lectures tied
in with the Passport to Italy semester. Other scheduled lecturers will be Dr.
Stephen Law of Humanities, Dr. Darry Carlstone of Physics and Engineering, and
Dr. David Boliver of Mathematics. Dr. Musgrove is a new faculty member at UCO,
holding a joint appointment in Humanities, History, and Modern Languages. Her
specializations are in the history of ancient Italy and the Latin language. The
lecture will be held in Room 121 of the Business building on the UCO campus. The
public is invited and there is no charge for admission. The lecture would be an
excellent preparation or follow-up for a visit to the one-of-a-kind Etruscan
Treasures exhibit that is showing at St. Gregory College in Shawnee through
October 31. If you are a UCO student and you want to visit the exhibit, contact
Dr. William Hommel of the Art Department: bhommel@ucok.edu
regarding a UCO group tour. Because
the Tuesday lectures are Passport to Italy events, attending students who picked
up passports at the Italian Country Fair will be able to get them stamped, bringing
them one-tenth closer to a chance at a one-unit tuition waiver in the spring.
If you did not get a chance to pick up a passport at the fair, a limited number
of passports will be available at Dr. Musgrove's lecture and you will be able
to register for the passport promotion at that time. This passport lists a number of events and/or opportunities
for service or learning which will occur on or near the UCO campus during the
Fall 2004 semester. Students who register for the Passport UCO Promotion program
will receive their personal passport, and will have the opportunity to win one
of 100 one-hour tuition credits. Eligible participants must be students who register
and receive their passport, and then attend at least ten of the official Italian
Semester events or service/learning opportunities listed in the passport, having
their passports stamped as they leave each event. UCO Student ID cards
are required for the issuance of the passports, so don't forget to bring your
ID with you if you still need to pick one up. Winners will be selected
by a drawing in December, 2004. Passports are not transferable. Students may enter
by submitting properly and sufficiently stamped passports to the Office of University
Relations, 201 Lillard Administration Building, during normal business hours any
time after they have attended or completed ten events or service/learning opportunities
and had their attendance/participation properly stamped as they depart the event
or complete the service/learning opportunity. Announcement of the 100 winners
will be made in early December 2004, and may be used in the spring 2005 semester
or thereafter. Tuition credits awarded in this program are neither refundable
nor transferable.
